Do heterosexuals somehow give license to men who have sex with female children?

I give Peter Heck a tad more credit than the average Christian polemicist. He is better educated and more intellectually honest than most of his peers. Nevertheless, many of those same Christians seem to want to conflate gays with pedophiles; making hay of the furor following the Sandusky debacle. In an article in OneNewsNow, Mr. Heck asks an important question. First he stipulates:

Let me clarify this point: I am not suggesting that homosexuality and pedophilia are equivalent. They are not. Nor do I believe that they should be treated identically under the criminal law. Homosexual participants are typically consenting adults, while pedophilia usually involves an unwilling and victimized child. Therefore, child molesting involves a degree of sexual abuse that homosexuality does not encompass.
I wish that Mr. Heck would call people what they choose to be called. In this case, it is "gay" in contrast to "homosexual." When he says that gays and pedophiles should not be treated identically under the [sic] criminal law, I hope that he means that homosexuality is not a criminal offense. Then I run into more serious problems:

  • Pedophilia does not usually involve an unwilling and victimized child. Pedophilia always involves an unwilling and victimized minor unable to give consent.
  • Heck goes on to write that child molesting involves a degree of sexual abuse that homosexuality does not encompass. Intentionally or not, he is suggesting that there is a degree of sexual abuse in homosexuality. That is simply untrue.
Then Mr. Heck goes to a rather strange world:
That stipulated, the left must explain how they can consider it ethical to sit in judgment of the sexual predilections of a self-described MAP (minor-attracted person) while they piously forbid others to sit in judgment of those of an LGBT.  Liberals have preached for decades that one does not "choose" their sexual appetite or preference. They have told us that it is bigoted and hateful to delegitimize or discriminate against another's natural sexual penchants, whether or not we personally share their urges.
Do heterosexuals somehow give license to men who have sex with female children?

I am neither a psychiatrist nor psychologist. Nevertheless, I would stipulate    for the sake of argument    that pedophiles are "born that way." So what? When they act, they do so by victimizing someone incapable of giving legal consent. As gays, we have never suggested that it is bigoted to discriminate based on natural sexual attraction. We have been clear that it is bigoted to discriminate against people who are gay. We are specific. It does not operate to suggest that we reserve opprobrium for people attracted to children, pets or anything else that does not involve consenting adults.
