We finance our own oppression

I wrote yesterday of the Bishop of Providence Rhode Island (Thomas J. Tobin) and his dishonest arguments for marriage inequality. It seems appropriate and important to remind people just how much we contribute to the support of those who oppress us:

  • Contributions to the church are tax deductible.
  • The church and the diocese pay no sales tax on anything that they purchase.
  • The church and the diocese pay no real estate taxes.
  • The church and the diocese pay no school taxes.
  • The church and the diocese pay no local taxes.
  • The church and the diocese pay no state taxes.
  • The church and the diocese pay no federal taxes.
  • The bishop and priests pay no income taxes on the free housing and food that they receives.
So who do you think makes up for all of these subsidies which contribute to the deficit?
