Amar’e Stoudemire's "Fag"

Amar’e Stoudemire is a forward, sometimes center, for the New York Knicks. A fan tweeted "...better come back a lot stronger and quicker to make up for this past season." Stoudemire's reaction:

Fuck you. I don’t have to do anything fag.

Stoudemire subsequently apologized and was fined $50,000 by the NBA but that's not the point. In a moment of anger, the most derisive term that this jerk could come up with was "fag"     the challenge of sexual orientation as presumably related to manliness.

LGBT Americans have come a long way these last few years insofar as equality relates to equal protection under the law. We won't really be equal in society until we are no longer used, collectively, to construct a male term of disapproval.

We still have much work to do.
