I am a Scientologist

Fluoxetine HCl 20mg Capsules (Prozac)
. . . and I own a business. I want my employee health insurance policy to exclude psychiatric treatment for my employees so that it coincides with my religious beliefs. The ravings of L. Ron Hubbard tell me so. While we are at it, I want a rider for my prescription coverage so that I am not indirectly paying for Prozac and other psychiatric medications.

My religious liberty is at stake!

I am a member of the Christian Identity church. I also happen to own a catering hall that is open to the general public. Obviously, blacks and Jews are inferior; My church tells me so. I'll be darned if two of those people are going to get married in my caterin' hall. Public accommodation? Publicly accommodate this you faggot lawyers at the ACLJew.

My religious liberty is at stake!

We are the Catholic Church. We operate St. Joseph's Medical Center in Westchester, NY. Most of our employees and patients are not Catholic and we take enormous sums from state and federal governments. We are forced to hire homosexuals. Nevertheless, just because people are legally married in New York doesn't mean that we have to recognize their marriages. We're sure not going to give them dependent insurance coverage.

Our religious liberty is at stake!

For the record, I am an agnostic Jew. The issue with St. Joseph's Medical Center is more likely the constitutionality of DOMA. Being self-insured,they are not subject to state law but, rather, federal regulations.
Let us pray!

A few days ago a US Senator at a Senate Judiciary hearing on ENDA said something that I was unaware of. Regrettably, I cannot recall who the Senator was but he told us that, in 1964, there were "religious liberty" objections to the Civil Rights Act which eventually passed.

As a matter of public policy, we have exempted churches from civil rights laws. Even the nutty Church of Scientology doesn't have to provide Prozac to its employees and the insane Christian Identity Church doesn't have to hire a black person. However, as a society we have drawn a line at affiliated organizations particularly when they cater to the general public or have a large number of employees of other religions. The bishops are going to have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. They no longer burn Protestants at the stake and the bishops are no longer a parallel European aristocracy in spite of occasionally being treated as such.
