Apparently National Organization for Marriage's Brian Brown is emulating Matt Barber who has been tweeting all day that the SPLC should apologize to FRC and remove their "hate group" designation. Having been shot and seriously injured myself, nobody is more sympathetic towards the security guard at FRC. Nevertheless, the fact that there was a shooting at FRC headquarters does not, in any way, alter the fact that FRC is a hate group.

If Family Research Council would like not to be designated a hate group then they should modify their rhetoric. The implication that SPLC is somehow responsible for this shooting is patently absurd. While my post about Peter Sprigg today came before I knew of the shooting, it is a perfect example of why FRC is labeled a hate group.

Here is Brian Brown attempting to capitalize on the shooting:

"Today's attack is the clearest sign we've seen that labeling pro-marriage groups as 'hateful' must end," said Brian Brown, President of NOM. "The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled the Family Research Council a 'hate group' for its pro-marriage views, and less than a day ago the Human Rights Campaign issued a statement calling FRC a 'hate group'—they even specified that FRC hosts events in Washington, DC, where today's attack took place."
