Blowhard Bill does it again

Bill Donohue, head of the Catholic League, is another self-styled defender of the faith (in spite of the fact that Blowhard Bill is divorced). Today, in all caps, Bill declares that "MADONNA LIBELS THE POPE." Apparently that is because of a Madonna song that  "ties the pope to hate speech directed at homosexuals. Moreover, photos of gay youths who recently committed suicide are also shown during this sequence."

Our boy Bill might be offended but Bill's umbrage does not constitute libel. Aside from the unsatisfied legal elements, Madonna's expression is completely true given that the Pope has written that gays are depraved, abnormal and disordered. That is hate speech irrespective of how holy or important the speaker might be to some people. It's also hard to argue that hate speech does not contribute to gay youth suicides. Bill also writes:

The most offensive part for Catholics occurs when anti-gay protesters are shown just before Madonna’s face morphs into that of the pope; at the point where the pope’s face appears, protesters holding gay-bashing signs are shown on both sides of him.  

What I find offensive     what I find even more offensive than Bill Donohue's mediocre intellect     is the fact that the Pope has the arrogance to inject himself into US law and politics. The Pope has written that Catholic politicians are "obliged to oppose the legal recognition of homosexual unions." Now that is a lie. Politicians are first obliged to the Constitution of the United States of America. The First Amendment to that Document includes an Establishment Clause which renders the Pope's instructions irrelevant and meddlesome. Did I just call the Pope a liar? Is that "libel?"
