My Email to WaPo's Ombudsman

Some guy named Doug Mainwaring, who claims to be a gay Tea Partier opposed to marriage equality, was given an OpEd in the Washington Post. According to the Post, "The writer is a co-founder of the National Capital Tea Party Patriots." That raises a number of questions including why WaPo would give ink to this crackpot. Is it simply because he claims to be a gay opposing marriage equality? Moreover, exactly who is this guy? Does WaPo even know? Have they done any vetting or did they give space to a staffer at NOM pretending to be gay. Here is my email from earlier today.

Doug Mainwaring, the (supposed) author of an OpEd on marriage equality may not exist. Does anyone know his work or academic background? Does anyone know the size of his supposed Tea Party group? Does anyone even know that he is not just a pseudonym for a staffer at National Organization for Marriage? Was this arranged by Mission Public Affairs/Frank Schubert?

National Capital Tea Party Patriots seems to exist here: No mention of Mainwaring.

Mr. Mainwaring claims to be gay and opposed to gay marriage. He also claims to have once supported same. Can anyone at WP point to anything that this guy ever wrote in support of marriage equality?

Does he get to write an OpEd at the Post because he claims to be that odd gay who is opposed to gay marriage? If, in fact, he really his who he says that he is, WP has fed a very sad person's personality disorder. Even then, WHO IS this guy?
