Tony Perkins is an Imbecile

As the Blade reports, Tony Perkins, head of the hate group, Family Research Council, says that parents should neither condone nor enable their kids when it comes to choosing to be homosexual. Perkins further claimed that he wouldn’t "disown my children for anything," but advised parents they should express disapproval if they’re children make such an announcement.

And if we really love them, we’ll be willing to tell them the truth that the choices that they have made, continuing what they’re doing, are both destructive to them personally and society as a whole ...

This is fundamentalist bullshit that does real harm to children. But it's not just children who are damaged. This causes kids to distance themselves from their parents; sometimes for life. In addition, this sets up a situation where parents are infused with guilt because a child is gay.

Being gay is neither destructive nor harmful. It is repression
that causes misery for gay youth and their parents!

Every mainstream medical association agrees that parents have as much influence over the sexual orientation of their children as they do over their eye color. Children need acceptance and parents need the assurance that they did nothing wrong. Both need to know that, with growing acceptance, LGBT people are flourishing throughout our society in every conceivable endeavor.
