Cardinal Dolan Seems Disconnected From Reality

Timothy Dolan, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Ne...
Timothy Dolan continues to cling to the idea that he has a sacred obligation to impose Catholic theology on US law     to the exclusion of the beliefs of all other religions. Either the Cardinal is unaware of the Establishment Clause (unlikely) or he thinks that it only applies when it is convenient. People like Dolan are the very reason that the Establishment Clause was incorporated into the First Amendment. Based on the following, it would appear that he is beginning to believe his own script:

Baltimore, Md., Nov 13, 2012 / 03:32 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Bishops and Catholics must work to better deliver the Church's teaching on marriage in light of the recent U.S. elections, said Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York.

“Our role, our sacred responsibility is to defend marriage from anything – anything – that would dilute it from what nature intends and what the God of nature intends namely, a life-long, life-giving, faithful union between one man and one woman,” Cardinal Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, told the press November 13.

Nothing prohibits the Cardinal from demanding that those of his faith not enter into same-sex marriages. Nor, for that matter, is any church required     nor would they ever be required     to sanctify any same-sex marriages. Yet, we are not a theocracy. We don't want to be a theocracy. The days of the Pope dividing up Europe (the Treaty of Tordesillas) expired more than 500 years ago.
