Speaking of Taxes, There's Porno Pete

The hypocrisy of the holier-than-thou crowd is astonishing. NOM, for example, doesn't comply with campaign finance disclosure laws. Mr. LaBarbera has a real problem with tax returns. The laws don't seem to apply to him. One can only imagine what his personal tax returns look like

I had a friend contact Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality. Pete failed to respond to several emails. He also failed to provide copies of AFTAH's 2010 and 2011 tax returns (form 990) as required by the IRS. The only thing we know for sure is that Pete filed a 990 for AFTAH for calendar year 2009 on October 15, 2010. They lost their non-profit status in June or July of 2011. According to Pete, he was reinstated in September, 2012.

The return that is available is a piece of work because Pete (who did the return himself) filled out only two lines; Gross revenues for 2009 ($110,000) and his salary of $75,000. The IRS requires detailed information about revenues, expenses and changes to net assets. Pete did not comply. In addition, the IRS requires a detailed accounting of assets and liabilities. Again, Pete did not comply. The balance sheet is used to reconcile receipts and expenditures.

There are more wrinkles to this; Issues that I will try to iron out with the Internal Revenue Service on Monday. Stay tuned.
