NOM is desperate for money

The latest tactic of National Organization for Marriage is to ask for money as cash in advance of any campaign that people can rally around. According to their "logic," supporters of marriage equality expect to lose at the Supreme Court (which is news to me). Therefore, we are going to launch state initiatives to convince the Court that people support equal marriage.

In point of fact, NOM has been incapable of stopping marriage equality when it is decided by state legislatures. Even after claiming to change the majority in the New Hampshire legislature this year, they were unable to effect a reversal of marriage equality (while claiming numerous times to have the votes to do so). Based on what track record are they now asking people to part with their hard-earned? Aside from their incompetence, they have demonstrated that they are terrible stewards of donors' money.

NOM pissed away millions of dollars on their friend Frank Schubert. Frank's primary qualifications are being one of the faithful.  Then there is Maggie Gallagher who is on the payroll with a $160,000 salary for doing absolutely nothing.

Furthermore, there is no correlation to what the Court does and what must be done in the states. The Prop 8 case only applies to California. As for DOMA, the outcome that most of us expect is for the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages consummated in equal marriage states.

It is very likely that the next legislative initiative will be in Illinois and there's not much that National Organization for Marriage can do about it. It looks like we have the votes and the Governor's signature. Rhode Island looks promising and it might be time to revisit New Jersey.

If I had to guess, I would say that NOM saw a huge influx of Catholic cash prior to November's elections. Those funds have been exhausted and then some. NOM is fighting their own ineptitude and the tide of obvious inevitability.

Dear xxxxxxxxx,

Believe me when I say that gay marriage advocates are very afraid of the Prop 8 and DOMA cases that the Supreme Court will hear next year.

And that's why they are going to open 2013 with another major campaign in several new target states to push their radical agenda forward.

It's a desperate gamble - a last ditch effort to convince the Supreme Court that the country is in favor of gay marriage.

And that's why I need your help now.

Now is the time - in anticipation of the most important fight marriage has ever faced - to stand up and make your voice heard.

Please make a year-end donation to NOM today of $25, $50, $100, $500 or more to help us send a clear and decisive message to the Supreme Court that the American people don't want elite judges and politicians redefining marriage for everyone.
