Blowhard Bill Takes a Cheap Shot

Blowhard Bill Donohue is a divorced man who thinks that it is his mission in life to excuse and promote the Catholic Church. Donohue correctly points out:
Yesterday, Andrew Sullivan said Pope Benedict XVI “enabled and abetted the rape of children.” Today, with regard to the revelations of old cases of priestly sexual abuse in Los Angeles, he asks, “How much did the Pope know? And who did he allow to rape and rape again.”
Blowhard Bill doesn't manage any sort of reasonable defense of the Church or the late Pope. In contrast, he goes on the attack.
Sullivan may not know anything about rape, but he sure knows about prostitution and lethal sex acts. In 2001, he was outed for selling his body on the Internet ...
Of course, that's not true at all. That is slanderous. As most of us know, about 20 years ago, Sullivan took out a personal ad seeking bareback sex. Therein, he disclosed that he was HIV positive. That is not prostitution, he was certainly not selling his body and (assuming that his partners were also HIV positive) not engaged in lethal sex acts.

More importantly, the ad hominem does nothing to address the sexual abuse perpetrated by Catholic priests. Nor does it address the position of the Church (and by implication the Pope) to overlook and even obfuscate that abuse.
