So the Church is organizing this "March for Marriage"

English: National Equality March on Washington
National Equality March on Washington
National Organization for Marriage is generally a proxy for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. With its considerable ties to Opus Dei, NOM often acts on behalf of the Catholic Church. Together, along with hate group Family Research Council, they are organizing a march on the Supreme Court to occur on March 26. This coincides with oral arguments in Hollingsworth v. Perry (Prop 8).

Along with NOM, bishops are organizing their priests who are organizing their congregations to charter busses and visit the nation's capital. The signs are being printed as I type. I suspect that they can marshal a pretty decent showing on a spring day in DC. Is any of this relevant?

Probably not.

The Church managed to organize an enormous demonstration in Paris and France is well on its way to marriage equality. Presumably, we and our allies can mount a reasonable counter-demonstration (we were able to get 200,000 people to show up for the National Equality March in October of 2009).

In the end, these demonstrations will allow groups to coalesce around an agenda but do nothing to affect the decisions of the highest court in the land; It's just more noise that is filtered out. In the end, the Court will do what it does and I am expecting more than a few surprises.
