Santorum as NRA Transmitter

Writing in Wing Nut Daily, Rick Santorum confirms what we knew all along; In addition to being an ignoramus on LGBT issues, Santorum is an ignoramus on most other issues     including gun safety. Santorum explains "How we can keep America safe from killers." Therein is this bit of bewilderment:
As for background checks, around 200,000 firearms are stolen each year. Criminals will continue to acquire guns without having to submit to background checks. Instead of ineffective new laws, we instead need to focus on strengthening existing systems and cracking down on those who commit crimes with guns.
Criminals stealing guns is popular mythology among the NRA set. According to ATF agents, stolen weapons accounts for 10% to 15% of weapons that fall into the hands of criminals. Yet, ATF officials say that only about 8% of the nation's 124,000 retail gun dealers sell the majority of handguns that are used in crimes. Presumably, those transactions are done without a background check. Furthermore, without those mandatory checks, there is no way to hold firearms dealers accountable. This is just common sense; Something that has only an elusive relationship with Mr. Santorum.

We have been following advice like Santorum's for decades. Santorum is just an NRA shill and his advice is based on the fact that the NRA represents the weapons industry and not the gun owners that constitute its membership. The gun industry knows that selling guns to criminals and unstable people is very profitable.

The very fact that Santorum is not embarrassed by writing for WND is telling. After all, WND is the source of most Obama conspiracy theories. I wonder if Santorum believes that President Obama is secretly gay-married as WND has claimed.
