New York Yankees offer surprising support for Jason Collins

New York Yankees
I have a love/hate relationship with the New York Yankees. I am a fan yet over the years I have been extremely critical of their non-existent LGBT outreach. They have steadfastly refused to make an "It Get Better" video. I blamed their manager, Joe Girardi, who is reportedly a very conservative Catholic. Girardi has had the anti-gay and controversial NFL coach, Tony Dungy in the locker room. I also took issue with the fact that when the Yankees had a minority business outreach conference, they did not include or solicit any prospective LGBT vendors or suppliers. I was surprised by tonight's press release titled Yankees applaud NBA's Collins for courage.

According to the Yankees front office:
Collins' announcement drew many supportive and encouraging responses from the sports world, and at Yankee Stadium, several members of the Yankees' roster said that they believe Major League Baseball would also be ready to accept an openly gay player.
Joe Girardi still seems to be struggling. He cannot seem to say "sexual orientation:"
I believe as men and women, we're called to love others [regardless of] their race, their religion, their thought process, whatever they do ... We're not called to judge. I think part of judging people is probably what gets us in a lot of trouble in the world.
