Thomas J. Tobin insists on a manufactured right to inflict his religion on everyone else

Someone needs to clue these bishops in. While they might live in palaces full of people who bow and scrape and while they might wear lots of silk and have chauffeured luxury cars     they are no more relevant to civil law than any other citizen who has the power to influence others.

Providence Bishop Tobin warns of 'grave risk.'
As the Rhode Island Senate prepares to take action on legislation that would seek to legitimize 'same-sex marriage,' I once again urge members of the Senate to stand strong in resisting this immoral and unnecessary proposition and to defend marriage and family as traditionally defined. We should be very clear about this: it is only with grave risk to our spiritual well-being and the common good of our society that we dare to redefine what God himself has created. My prayer is that the senators will have all the wisdom and courage they need to do the right thing in this moment of decision.
In other words, Tobin wants them to recognize the Catholic Religion. Of course Tobin does not explain what this grave risk is. Noticeably absent are references to all the "harms" done to "our spiritual well-being" and "our society" in, say, Massachusetts or Connecticut or even Spain. All Tobin gives us are meaningless platitudes.

What I find "immoral" is discrimination. What I find immoral is sending a message to gay kids that they are not entitled to a full life. What I find immoral is isolating the children of gay couples and denying them the security and privileges of married parents.

I love the phrase "what God himself has created." I know that the following is overused and has become trite, but the trial judge in the criminal case against the Lovings in Virginia still illuminates.
Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.
