Washington Times editorial claims that the Scouts' 'perversion files' prove that allowing gay Scouts is a threat to the BSA's 'ranks'

The Washington Times has become as credible as WingNutDaily. Actually there are times when WND makes more sense. Today's edition has an editorial titled Threatened Scouts. Therein is this bit of hyperbole:
The danger of homosexuality in its ranks is not theoretical. The risk is exposed in a number of lawsuits stemming from the release of the Scouts’ so-called “perversion files.” The most recent of these suits was filed earlier this month in King County, Wash., and the cases reveal that the Scouts for years kept detailed records on suspected child molesters in its ranks. The files were intended to eliminate molesters in the ranks and to make sure they stayed out of Scouting. Such efforts sometimes failed.
The Scouts are proposing to allow gay kids into the BSA. It is absurd to think that this poses any risk to anyone else unless one believes that homosexuality is somehow contagious. Much like the repeal of DADT and the hyperbolic end-of-world warnings of evils that never materialized, there are already thousands of gay Scouts who are required to lie about who they are.

I am willing to wager that the overwhelming majority of people in the so-called "perversion files" are married men. It is extraordinarily rare for an openly gay man to molest a child. That's not theoretical. There are several peer reviewed studies demonstrating that gays are less likely to molest children than the general public.

People interact with gay people every day without even knowing it. Your lawyer, doctor, accountant, boss, subordinate, customer or supplier might be gay. It is neither an acquired taste nor airborne.

The Washington Times is wed to the notion that sexual orientation is;
  1. A choice;
  2. Behavior and;
  3. A lifestyle.
While homosexuality is not contagious, ignorance and stupidity manage to spread.
