In Jamaica Christianists Rally Support for Sustaining Ant-Sodomy Law

On Sunday, roughly 1,500 people assembled in a central Kingston park for a spirited anti-gay hate-fest and religious service. This comes just two days before a rare court challenge to Jamaica's anti-sodomy law. Jamaica's Supreme Court is scheduled to begin hearing on Tuesday a petition by a gay rights activist who hopes to challenge the constitutionality of the 1864 law under a charter of rights revamped in 2011.

Under Jamaica's laws the punishment for having gay sex is 10 years in prison. In the Caribbean Barbados, Guyana and Grenada have similar laws. They are a remnant of colonial "buggery" laws.
