With Nothing of Merit to Say, NOM Complains About the News Media

National Organization for Marriage is blaming the messengers for their failed message.

I could have put this one in an envelope. Today, National Organization for Marriage Calls for Balanced News Media Coverage for Same-Sex 'Marriage;' Scare quotes and all. Get out your crying towels:
"Those of us on the front lines of defending true marriage have experienced first-hand the news media's bias in favor of redefining marriage," said Brian Brown, NOM's president. "But this important new study proves that the news media is overwhelmingly biased in favor of same-sex 'marriage,' leaving viewers to wonder if they are trying to shape the news rather than cover it."
This self-serving victimization is based on a Pew Research Center Study. The study demonstrates that roughly half of the news coverage on marriage between March 18 and May 12 focused on support for marriage equality while only 9% focused on opposition. As Pew points out:
Arguments against [marriage equality] were more varied, but most often voiced the idea that same-sex marriage would hurt society and the institution of traditional marriage.
Catholic Cross
The problem is obvious. Those are dishonest arguments. NOM, is responsible for voicing much, if not most, of the opposition to equality. Regardless of how they try to position it, NOM's opposition to marriage equality is based on a religious objection. National Organization for Marriage only exists as a proxy for the US Conference of Roman Catholic Bishops. The opposition of the Catholic Church is premised on their unscientific and archaic view of homosexuality as a "disordered" behavior.

It took those folks a couple of centuries to admit that Copernicus was right after all. Eventually they will get around to a rational and scientific understanding of sexual orientation     maybe. In the interim, we all must suffer through their attempts to inflict their religious beliefs on everyone else.

The study does not reflect bias. Rather, it reflects momentum for marriage equality.
"Those of us on the front lines of defending true marriage have experienced first-hand the news media's bias in favor of redefining marriage," said Brian Brown, NOM's president. "But this important new study proves that the news media is overwhelmingly biased in favor of same-sex 'marriage,' leaving viewers to wonder if they are trying to shape the news rather than cover it." - See more at: http://www.nomblog.com/35691#sthash.k03WwKyh.dpuf
