Crackpottery Awards: "Mat Staver Honored for Defending Freedom at Ex-Gay Awareness Dinner"

Mat Staver - Liberty Council
Well, Staver might receive some dubious honor if anyone bothers to show up this time. According to Liberty Council:
Mat Staver, Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman, will be honored at the First Ex-Gay Awareness Dinner on September 30, 2013, for his work defending change therapy in California and New Jersey.

Hosted by Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX), a national, nonprofit organization that advocates for former homosexuals and their families, the event will also feature Dennis Jernigan, who will share his music and story of coming out of homosexuality.

“I am honored to receive this award,” said Mat Staver. “It is my privilege to represent minors who struggle with same-sex sexual attractions and who seek counseling against those who want to intrude into their counseling room and tell them and their counselor what may be said,” said. Staver.

Of course Mr. Staver is not representing "minors." He is representing parents who want their child to (impossibly) change his or her sexual orientation. He is representing the "therapists" who are able to get reimbursement from health insurance companies for a "therapy" that is neither safe nor effective.

Just a reminder. The following organizations concur that sexual orientation is innate and the efforts to change sexual orientation are ineffective and harmful.

  • American Academy of Pediatrics
  • American Association of School Administrators
  • American Counseling Association
  • American Federation of Teachers
  • American Medical Association
  • American Psychological Association
  • American Psychiatric Association
  • American School Health Association
  • American Sociological Association
  • Interfaith Alliance Foundation
  • National Association of School Psychologists
  • National Association of Social Workers
  • National Education Association
