Cons want to impeach federal judge for decision they do not like

Judge Timothy Black
Theater of the absurd redux.

Judge Timothy Black Judge is a US District Court Judge for the Southern District of Ohio. Judge Black recently ordered Ohio to recognize two out-of-state same-sex marriages. In both cases, one partner was near death. Judge Black's rationale was that Ohio law historically has recognized out-of-state marriages as valid. He had the audacity to suggest that these couples should be treated with respect. Oh my.

Apparently, in some conservative circles, that makes Judge Black some sort of anarchist.  State Republican Rep. John Becker is calling for Congress to impeach him. “The grounds are malfeasance and abuse of power,” Becker wrote a letter last month (see below) to U.S. Republican Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH-2). Becker asked the congressman to begin impeachment proceedings. “Judge Black has demonstrated his incompetence by allowing his personal political bias to supersede jurisprudence.”

In that weird place known as Tea Party planet, various "tenthers" and self-styled libertarians are complaining that Judge Black violated the US Constitution which is ridiculous.  Ohio recognizes the marriage of other couples married out of state. It's an obvious violation of Equal Protection and Due Process if gay couples – who are similarly situated – are treated differently.

Rep. Becker sure does love that stationery. Enough to use it on both pages.
