[Video] NOM's victimology ad in Hawaii

National Organization for Marriage has embarked on another discrimination campaign. This time they are hoping that constituents will place enough pressure on legislators to doom a vote in a special session that begins on Monday.

NOM seems to have stopped even attempting to assert theoretical and arcane claims that marriage equality has dire consequences on marriage itself. It has become difficult, if not tedious, given a decade of experience in Massachusetts. Actually, it's a rather silly to even attempt to do so.

So once again the appeal is “behold the victims.” NOM's argument is that gays should not be permitted to marry because public accommodations will not be permitted to discriminate. It makes no sense. The only people who want to discriminate are people who want to be victims. You would think that gay marriage will force people to gay marry.

NOM's self-manufactured victims are the same few individuals who set out to violate anti-discrimination ordinances (often in states that don't even recognize same-sex marriage) in order to demonstrate who they are being persecuted. It's the same “We don't serve your kind here” that minorities have been fighting for decades.

One of NOM's claims is also dishonest. Catholic Charities in DC was not forced to close. They chose to close for two reasons. 1) The bishops  can claim that they are being persecuted and; 2) The chose not to comply with anti-discrimination ordinances.
