Illinois Bishop Paprocki Plans Exorcism to Protest Marriage Equality

We don't need to know much more than the headline. Nevertheless; Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of Springfield said that people who enter into same-sex marriage are committing a "serious sin." I wonder if that sin is greater or less than gay sex. Is gay sex more or less sinful if the participants are married?

Paprocki is planning his ritual to coincide with the signing of the legislation by Gov. Pat Quinn on Wednesday. Paprocki criticized Catholic politicians for supporting the bill. These folks have a firm expectation that Catholic lawmakers will legislate as Catholics. Indeed, in then Cardinal Ratzinger's treatise on same-sex unions he wrote:

When legislation in favour of the recognition of homosexual unions is proposed for the first time in a legislative assembly, the Catholic law-maker has a moral duty to express his opposition clearly and publicly and to vote against it. To vote in favour of a law so harmful to the common good is gravely immoral.
According to Paprocki:
It is scandalous that so many Catholic politicians are responsible for enabling the passage of this legislation and even twisting the words of the pope to rationalize their actions despite the clear teaching of the church.
The arrogance of the bishops of the Catholic Church never ceases to amaze me. Support for marriage equality among Catholics is greater than the general public.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof of religion.
