In the end why Brewer will likely veto Arizona's "freedom to discriminate" bill

Gov. Jan Brewer
I don't know what Arizona's Governor Brewer is going to do about the latest attempt to discriminate against gay people. If she signs the bill into law, it would allow businesses to lawfully to discriminate against gay people if the owner had sincerely held religious beliefs to support such discrimination.

I hope that I am right and that Governor Brewer will veto this disgrace. Gay activists are probably not going to make a difference. However, the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry has asked Brewer to take a pass. They don't want people to think that Arizona is controlled by a bunch of religious yahoos. They know, as I know, that anti-gay climates are bad for business. Many people will just go elsewhere, particularly the tourist industry.

We have seen the chambers successfully intervene to prevent anti-gay bills from becoming law in Kansas and Indiana. There is a good reason for their successful persuasion. The same chambers represent the GOP's financial base. If business leaves the GOP, there is no GOP. It simply becomes what is left of the Tea Party.
