Newark Archbishop completing tax-exempt 7,500 sf retirement mansion

John J. Myers - Archbishop of Newark
John J. Myers - Archbishop of Newark
Newark Archbishop, John J. Myers lives in a rather nice 4,500 square foot home. It has five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a three-car garage and a large swimming pool. But that wasn't roomy enough for him. Anticipating his retirement, the archdiocese is in the process of completing a three-story 3,000 square foot addition complete with an indoor lap pool, a hot tub, three fireplaces, a library and an elevator.

We all subsidize this largess.
  • This is all paid for by tax-deducted contributions.
  • The residence is exempt from property taxes.
  • No sales tax has been paid on any of the materials and furnishings.
  • Fees for licenses and permits were likely waived.

We are all paying for this self-absorbed schmuck to pontificate on the evils of "people with same-sex attraction."

Furthermore, it's not like this idiot has done anything spectacular. Sex abuse scandals have flourished wherever he has been. Just over the past year,  one priest was arrested after violating a ban on ministry to children and another took up residence in a parish despite a credible history of sexual abuse. Myers has also been tied to poor administration at his last post in Peoria where he ignored signs of abusive priests.
