Another fired gay educator sues another parochial school

A former Catholic high school teacher in Los Angeles, who says he was fired after marrying his partner, is suing his former employer.

The former English teacher, Kenneth Bencomo, has sued St. Lucy’s Priory High School in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The suit alleges wrongful termination in violation of public policy, violation of the state Labor Code and breach of contract. Bencomo seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

At the time of his dismissal last June Bencomo was in his 15th year of employment. According to the suit, “At that time, and at all times thereafter, Bencomo’s sexual orientation was common knowledge among many of the students, faculty members and the administration of St. Lucy’s.”
