The Washington Post reports that Charles J. Cooper, the conservative lawyer who represented the proponents of Proposition 8 at the Supreme Court is  planning his daughter’s upcoming same-sex wedding ceremony. Will National Organization for Marriage react with “no wonder we lost?”

Jewish lawyers have routinely represented Neo-Nazis and other right wing whack jobs but this is different. When someone from the ACLU defended the Westboro Baptist Church they were defending First Amendment rights. In this case, when Cooper was asked by federal district court judge Vaughn Walker what harm was caused by same-sex marriage, Cooper admitted that he did not know. What principle was he defending?

It is unclear when Cooper, a Republican power-lawyer and former Reagan Justice Department lawyer, knew that his daughter is gay. However, she became engaged shortly after the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case. Shame on him.
