It is NOM that should apologize for their outrageous bigotry - not some city councilman

I wrote about this earlier today. Now we get this long-winded title for a blog post: National Organization for Marriage Condemns New York City Councilman’s “Outrageous, Intolerant” Remarks, Demands an Apology and Retraction from Entire Council.

I am sure that they will get right on that Brian Brown.

National Organization for Marriage is responsible for spreading countless lies and hate about LGBT citizens. Having lost the battle for marriage discrimination, they have become a full-blown anti-gay hate group. NOM owes our community an apology for claiming, repeatedly, that gay people are a threat to children. And that is just for starters. I think that we all know the scores of things that NOM has done that warrant a sincere apology.

Yet, NOM insist on making these phony demands for apologies whenever someone says something that they don't like. In this case that would ne New York City Councilman Daniel Drumm who, referring to Chick-Fil-A, told the Huffington Post “They are not welcome here unless they can embrace all of New York’s diverse community, including the LGBT community.”

Mr. Drumm is absolutely correct. The greasy chicken places will not be readily welcomed by New Yorkers who overwhelmingly support the rights of their fellow LGBT citizens and taxpayers. Chick-Fil-A's EEO policy does not include sexual orientation and they provide no partner benefits. Moreover, they have been unable to produce a single openly gay manager. Do they even have any gay franchisees or are they weeded out as well? The enterprise is homophobic by company policy.

Brian Brown, NOM's president is a bigot. Not because he believes that marriage is between a man an a woman. Rather it is because he acts to deprive his fellow citizens of their constitutional rights. He seems to think that he has license to impose the teachings of the Catholic Church on everyone else regardless of the collateral damage. Mr. Brown is dead wrong. If he is concerned about being labeled a bigot (and he is) then he should stop behaving like a bigot.
