Break out the Kool-Aid - Brian Brown believes his own bullshit

Brian S. Brown - National Organization for Marriage
I almost feel sorry for Brian Brown, head of National Organization for Marriage. The “almost” is due to the fact that, Brown is slavishly devoted to his religious beliefs superstitions to the detriment of the gay community. I am not going to make his problem become our problem. Today's email missive from NOM contains an interesting paragraph:
We’re in a historic battle, a fight for one of the great truths of civilization – that marriage as one man and one woman is an essential element of a thriving society based on strong families. It’s not only God’s design for humankind, it’s been proven throughout history to be the most beneficial relationship for men and women, for any children born of their union, and for society as a whole. How fortunate we are to be able to demonstrate our support for preserving marriage in the law!
Brown always was a Knight Templar and this is a battle for him with sword drawn and shield in position to fight for the imposition of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. That aside I concur that opposite sex marriage is an essential element of our society. However, that obfuscates NOM's crusade. NOM is still determined to ban same-sex marriage — by any means necessary. Fortunately they have proved to be incompetent.

Presumably, same-sex marriages will account for about 2% of all marriages. Meanwhile 50% of opposite sex marriages are failing and far too many children are being raised in single parent households. If that wasn't bad enough, according to the National Review (NOM's favorite publication) nearly half of all births are out of wedlock. Among NOM's favorite faction, African-Americans, that soars to over 72%. Perhaps NOM and folks like Harry Jackson and Bill Owens have more important things to do than gay bashing.

That would be true were it not for the fact that what Brown, Jackson and Owens all have in common is complete surrender to religious doctrine. It represents a capitulation to an absence of critical thinking. Instead of common sense and reality, these folks are much more interested in ancient texts. Call me a cynic but like-minded people create a constituency that is not only easy to manipulate but can be milked effortlessly.

After all, who else is going to pay Brian Brown $230 thousand per to be unsuccessful? Six years ago, this guy was earning $40K as head of a Connecticut family policy outfit. Come to think of it, he was unsuccessful there as well. Meanwhile, Mrs. Brown seems to spend an inordinate amount of time being pregnant. What will Mr. Brown do when NOM loses its big-money contributors?

I guess that uncertainty is enough to make anyone delusional.
