Does NOM have an obsession for pissing money away?

Jeff Bell
National Organization for Marriage has a new cause. This time it is Jeff Bell, a 70 year-old native of Virginia (for the past 31 years) who wants to challenge New Jersey Senator Cory Booker. Bell leased an apartment in New Jersey three weeks ago. Thus far Bell is campaigning on reducing the power of the Federal Reserve (he hasn't disclosed why, how or to what extent) and returning us the gold standard (sure).

There is a reason that Cory Booker does not face a serious GOP challenger. As a successful mayor and now senator, Booker has built a monied bipartisan coalition. Meanwhile an underfunded Bell is trying to best Brian Goldberg, Rich Pezzullo and Murray Sabrin in the Republican primary.  Bell has raised about $35,000; Booker nearly $13 million.

Enter NOM and Brian Brown.

Championing Social Issues

Dear Marriage Supporter,

I want to introduce you to Jeff Bell, who is competing to become the next Republican candidate for US Senate in New Jersey.

Jeff is locked in a primary battle to represent the Republican Party this November against Democratic incumbent, Corey [sic] Booker.
Brown goes on to  describe Bell as a close friend (who knows?) and asks NOMmers to donate to Bell's campaign. Good luck with that.

Bell was an accomplished political operative. In 1978 Bell defeated incumbent, Republican moderate Clifford Case (the last GOP Senator from NJ), in the GOP primary. He went on to lose to Bill Bradley by wide margins. 36 years later and out of the state for three decades, it is hard to take him seriously.
