It's easy to observe that “they” don't get it. The reality is actually more malevolent; They don't want to get it. In the aftermath of United States vs. Windsor jurists, when given the opportunity, have unanimously concluded that bans on marriage equality violate the constitutional rights of citizens. Presumably Governor Nixon also swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America. Moreover, Mr. Moon should know that it's not just the Second Amendment that means something. There are other ideas expressed, like equal protection and due process.
Marriage equality is going to be a reality in Missouri. Mr. Moon's reputation will eventually be damaged as a result of his attempt to thwart even the smallest measure of equality. Of course 20 years from now, if he's still around, Moon will claim that he was all for equality and that he was just making a constitutional argument.
