Would we tolerate such blatant anti-Semitism?

This schmuck misspelled Romney
On his personal blog, the news director at a radio station in rural Kentucky was suspended and then terminated. Among other things (the post has since been taken down) he quoted James Edwards claiming that Jews hate Christians and are determined to undermine Christianity through their distribution of pornography. He also quoted Don Wildmon, retired head of American Family Association, that Jews control the media and they are too accepting of homosexuality which is why the media is "pro-homosexual."

The news director also asserted that the Rothschild family controls the Federal Reserve and, quoting from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion claimed that Jews want to take over the world. Finally he said that the Holocaust was a hoax designed to spread anti-Christian feelings.

The news director does not exist and most of this is untrue. James Edwards and Don Wildmon are accurately quoted. Jews control neither the Federal Reserve nor the media and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a hoax. Holocaust deniers are in the same category as Birthers, 9-11 Truthers and those who believe in FEMA concentration camps. This character would become a hero on Stormfront but certainly not in polite society.

May I present a true story?

Bob Eschliman, the editor of a newspaper in rural Iowa has been terminated, reportedly for homophobic expressions on his personal blog.

Writing about something called the Queen James Bible; “It’s pretty easy to brush off a nonsensical contrived version of the Bible, but that’s not the deceivers’ end goal,” Eschliman wrote. “No, they want all Christendom to abandon their faith. They do that by ‘proselytizing’ to church leaders to change their view on homosexuality.”

“[Jesus] said there would be deceivers. He said those deceivers would cause Christians who remain true to His teachings to become reviled. He said false prophets would follow to deceive even more, and that lawlessness will abound,” he continued. “If you ask me, it sounds like the Gaystapo is well on its way. We must fight back against the enemy.”

The Queen James Bible does exist. It is a bible devoid of homophobia that is in very few hands. This reminds me of the claims that After the Ball, an out of print book written nearly 25 years ago, is the homosexual agenda. In point of fact most gays are Christians. Gays are not anti-Christian per se.

As a community it is an established fact that nearly all of the oppression that we endure is at the hands of Conservative Christians. Every anti-gay hate group is a Christian organization. They are entitled to their religious beliefs providing that those are not imposed by society as civil law. There is resentment for their efforts to do just that.

The "Gaystapo" reference is particularly offensive as are Third Reich references in general. The Gestapo was the official secret police of Nazi Germany and occupied Europe. The Gestapo was also officially exempt from any form of judicial review. They routinely tortured, murdered and imprisoned people summarily. They were literally above the law.

To suggest that LGBT activism is, in any way, comparable to the Gestapo is irresponsible bigotry. Our objectives are clearly established. They consist of equal protection under law and due process which are established constitutional rights. We are peaceful and law abiding.

Mr. Eschliman will, undoubtedly, become a hero of sorts. He will probably be invited to the Values Voter Summit. There will be claims of free speech and the idea that he was terminated because he "disagrees" with homosexuality. The reality is that this guy was as offensive as our fictional anti-Semitic character yet he will be welcome in polite society as a culture warrior. So are Todd Starnes, Peter Sprigg, Tony Perkins and the entire bigot brigade.
