Now that the IRS case is mostly done will the Service finally go after NOM for its illegal tax scheme?

Brian S. Brown - National Organization for Marriage
Brian Brown, head of National Organization for Marriage, is the worst kind of imbecile. He thinks that he is smart. However, every scheme, every ploy gets discovered. The Maine case, where NOM got hammered, is a perfect example of the intellectual arrogance of people who are not terribly bright.

Last November I wrote about NOM's scheme to divert money donated to National Organization for Marriage Education Fund to National Organization for Marriage.

Why does that matter?

Donations to NOMed are tax deductible while donations to NOM are not. In this case, about $4,000,000 was donated to NOMed and actually used by NOM. That means that the government lost about $1-million to $1.5-million in tax revenues.

How do you know that the donations were used by NOM?

That's a good question; One that only the IRS can really answer. However, this is for calendar year 2012 when NOMed was essentially the Ruth Institute. Right off the bat, NOMed lent NOM $1.7 million. Then, going through the tax return, there are large expenses made obviously to support political campaigns that NOM was involved in. NOMed/Ruth were prohibited from engaging in political activity by the tax code. For example, NOMed provided a company named ccAdvertising with $153 thousand while showing only $20,000 for advertising. We know from disclosures in Maine that NOM uses ccAdvertising to make robo-calls in political campaigns. NOMed is legally prohibited from doing that.

I am going to review what I already sent the Service. I will refine it if necessary and resubmit the paperwork. If the IRS ever does act NOM will certainly claim that it is retribution for the recent litigation (that NOM all but lost). Never lose an opportunity to claim victimhood.
