Michael Brown continues to promote his anti-gay hyperbole

Michael Brown - Windbag
Michael Brown, a virulent anti-gay bigot, is now claiming that he can read minds. At Charisma News he writes:
According to a 2011 Gallup poll, Americans thought that 25 percent of the population was gay. … The reality is that less than 2 percent of the population is gay (meaning fewer than one in 50 people), and many gay leaders know this is true.

People of America, you have been duped.
How on earth would Mr. Brown know what gay leaders supposedly know. The notion that the citizenry has been duped is just rhetorical nonsense. There are two points that Mr. Brown fails to consider:

  1. Surveys of sexuality have wide differences and social scientists differ on the number of people who identify as gay or bisexual. Some people are unwilling to disclose their sexuality to a stranger. Moreover, sexual orientation is a continuum with gay and straight at the extreme ends.

  2. Most importantly the percentage of gay and bisexual people is irrelevant. Were only 0.1% of the population gay or bisexual, that minority group would deserve due process and equal protection under law. Those two principles represent the core of equality.
Mr. Brown is also oblivious to the fact that issues affecting LGBT citizens directly affect the families of LGBT citizens including parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. When LGBT people are unequal their families are unequal in some ways. LGBT inequality (and we remain legally unequal) probably affects up to 40% of the population. Maybe more.

Brown concludes:
The reality is that fewer than one in 50 Americans identify themselves as gay, out of which only a minority wants to be "married."

How foolish, then, to redefine marriage, restrict freedoms of conscience, speech, and religion, and engage in a massive social experiment based on such a tiny percentage of the population.

We won't be duped again.
Let us assume for the moment that the CDC figures are correct. It cuts both ways. What on earth is the big fuss if "such a tiny percentage" wants marriage, public accommodation and workplace equality?

We Jews are a mere 1.7% of the population and we have had workplace and public accommodation equality since 1964. Brown, who converted from Judaism to Christianity, should know more about the difficulties facing minorities. Sadly he does not — and never will.
