So what's pissing off the usual suspects on a Saturday afternoon?

United States embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel

It's raining in South Beach. Time to catch up on a couple of items. This first one comes from Tony Perkins, leader of the hate group Family Research Council. From and email sent out this afternoon:
Dear David,

I saw something recently that was utterly shocking. Shocking because it unfortunately speaks volumes about the Obama administration's misplaced priorities.

A rainbow flag -- the banner of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender movement -- has been hoisted by the United States government over our embassy in Israel.

In fact, the Obama administration is now promoting homosexuality through our U.S. Embassies all over the world. Our ambassadors have been given the freedom to fly the "gay flag" over our embassies as they see fit.
Utterly shocking I'm sure. First off, this has nothing to do with the priorities of the administration. It's a simple gesture of respect for a disadvantaged minority. Mr. Perkins is a bigot because he seeks to deprive LGBT citizens of even the smallest measure of dignity. I'll remind Mr. Perkins (who idolizes all things Israeli) that Israel had gay soldiers on active duty years prior to the repeal of DADT. Lawrence v. Texas decriminalized sodomy in 2003. Israel came to the same conclusion 15 years prior to Lawrence.

Israel has had the equivalent of ENDA for some time as well and is far ahead of us on many other rights for its LGBT citizens. Tel Aviv is considered to be one of the gay-friendliest cities in the world. The point is that Israelis will be neither aghast nor offended. The idea that any of this is “promoting homosexuality” is at the heart of Perkins' bigotry. It hints at the banal and reprehensible defamation that “homosexuals recruit.” Israelis, on the whole, know better. None of this nonsense chips away at the legacy of President Obama who was reelected after stating his full support for marriage equality.

Perkins in only happy when people from the United States export and encourage hate. Perkins and his ilk are spreading defamation and discrimination throughout the African continent as well as Russia and Eastern Europe. It's an attempt to be relevant at a time of increased marginalization in their home country.
