AFA's Buddy Smith claims that our mission is to destroy marriage

On Monday, two couples filed suit in federal court seeking recognition of same-sex marriage in Mississippi which is home to American Family Association. In  AFA's “news” blog AFA VP, Buddy Smith, is quoted as saying:
… it's coming from a very radical group that not only intends to redefine marriage, but from an understanding of the Bible of what marriage is they simply want to destroy it. It's a mission of destruction.

It seems that every LGBT citizen who seeks Equal Protection and Due Process is a “radical.” More importantly, most people do not accept Mr. Smith's literal interpretation of the Bible. It constitutes a special pleading by insisting that morality can only come from the Bible. Mr. Smith is quite content with his homophobia yet probably hasn't sold a daughter into slavery. Nor, for that matter, is he likely to advocate the murder of disobedient children or brides who aren't virgins. The Bible doesn't seem to provide much guidance on which parts one can safely ignore.

Many same-sex couples are Christians who have Christian weddings consecrated in Christian churches. Similarly, Jewish couples are taking their vows in synagogues. Mr. Smith fails to appreciate that his version of Christianity does not constitute a state religion. What part of the Establishment Clause is ambiguous to Buddy Smith?

American Family Association is designated as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
