More shameless bullshit in a North Carolina ad from NOM

National Organization for Marriage demonstrates its deceit and conceit. In a new advertisement for Thom Tillis titled "Kay Hagan's Judge" the anti-gay group claims that a judge picked by Senator Hagan is responsible for overturning North Carolina's same-sex marriage ban.

First of all, it is President Obama who nominates judges, not Senators. The judge in question, Max O. Cogburn, Jr., was confirmed by the Senate 96 to 0. The same conclusion was reached by a second North Carolina judge, William Lindsay Osteen Jr.. Osteen was appointed by George W. Bush.

No judge could reach a different conclusion. The Supreme Court (by a margin of at least 6-3) declined to hear an appeal to the marriage case from Virginia which had been decided by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. North Carolina is in the same circuit as Virginia and marriage equality is now the law.

The specifics are less important than the barefaced lies.

The folks at NOM must believe that everyone is as dimwitted as they are.  For a holier-than-thou operation that has its roots in Opus Dei and is a proxy for the Catholic Church it is astonishingly hypocritical that they have no problem lying. Then again, their political director, Frank Schubert used to work for big tobacco. Big donors, like the Knights of Columbus are enablers of dishonesty.
