Recycled: Gay marriage kills babies

The conservative Catholic LifeSiteNews is running an article from last night  that is from Voice of the Family which is a project of the UK anti-choice, anti-gay Society for the Protection of Unborn Children or SPUC. They try to hide the association but the domain is registered to a SPUC spokesman (why do I want to write "spoke spucsman?"), Matthew McCusker.

The argument (if you can call it that) goes something like this. Same-sex marriage devalues the institution of marriage which causes fewer women to marry which results in more out-of-wedlock births which, in turn, causes more abortions. Therefore, it seems abundantly clear that gay marriage kills babies. Right?

We first saw this in 2012 via Pink News in the form of a flier that SPUC was handing out across England to thwart marriage equality. It seems that really bad arguments never die. They just pop up again two years later as even more intellectually appalling arguments.

The first question that you have to ask yourself is why does SPUC oppose marriage equality. Is it because they think that it creates abortions or is it because of the Catholic Church and they are saying that it increases abortions to support the view of whichever ambitious prelate, or prelates, decided that the Church would oppose same-sex marriage? Most marginally sane people would say it's the latter.

Nevertheless, we know from experience that these things tend to spread to other Defenders of the Faith. In the coming days we will probably hear this restated by Ryan Anderson or Sherif Girgis or maybe just a blog post from our friends at National Organization for Marriage. Last night someone on Witherspoon's blog was explaining how sex-ed undermines happy marriages so they are not that far off.

Of course if you are wed to the notion that gays getting married has some mysterious effect on heterosexual women that causes them to forego marriage then you should not be reading this. Doing so will only delay your visiting a therapist or having your meds adjusted. Just close your browser, get on the telephone and make some appointments. Then turn off your computer and don't turn it back on until you are feeling better. Oh, and stay away from Father Ogletwink for awhile. He has led you, and your brain, astray.
