Matt Barber: 'The Crucifixion of Pastor Scott Lively' - Oh my!

Matt Barber
Sometimes these Christianist whack jobs do not appreciate their amusement value. This piece continues in WND (where else?) with “Exclusive: Matt Barber covers case of homosexuals making 'war criminal' of activist.”

Aside from the factual issues (nobody made a war criminal of Lively), the Short Jew (me) figures that this imagery is highly offensive to true Christians. Barber is comparing Scott Lively to Jesus Christ. Barber goes on, making matters worse by claiming that he is not making a comparison when he claims that Lively is “Christ-like.” Isn't that a comparison?

I don’t presume to compare my friend Scott Lively of Abiding Truth Ministries to Jesus Christ. None of us can compare, even remotely, to the one and only God-man – to the Lord of the universe and exclusive path to eternal salvation. That said, Pastor Lively is one of the most “Christ-like” people I’ve had the honor to know.
Apparently, what makes Lively “Christ-like” is the fact that he has astonishingly claimed that gays were responsible for both the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide. Perhaps it is his anti-gay activities in Eastern Europe and Uganda that make Scott Lively worthy of such praise.

Even if one believes that homosexuality is a sin that prohibition constitutes only a minuscule portion of Christianity. Mr. Barber and Mr. Lively seem wed to the idea that Christianity is solely expressed as homophobia. They are both singularly obsessed with all  things LGBT. All the rest doesn't seem to matter very much — including Christ's message of love. What these guys do is comparable to a rabbi whittling Judaism down to the dietary laws making the religion all about sinners eating pork and shrimp.

Barber goes on to write:
You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Pastor Lively, you see, has, in the spirit of Saul Alinsky, been “Hitlerized” by a left-wing extremist group ironically calling itself the “Center for Constitutional Rights” (CCR). CCR is a George Soros-funded organization with, I kid you not, the beastly street address of 666 Broadway, New York, NY.
On March 14, 2012, the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) against Lively and his Abiding Truth Ministries.  Under the Alien Tort Statute the suit alleges that Lively’s involvement in anti-gay efforts in Uganda, including his active participation in the conspiracy to strip away fundamental rights from LGBT persons, constitutes persecution.

As for the Soros connection, Mr. Soros is not on the board of CCR and, according to the most recent tax documents available, two Soros foundations, The Open Society Institute and the Foundation to Promote Open Society contributed a total of $306,000. That constitutes about 4% of the funds that CCR received. These two foundations provide about $700 million in grants annually.

Beastly address? Please. That's just superstitious nonsense. This all goes on and on with a major boo-hoo for Lively. Barber even claims that the judge hearing this case is sympathetic because his ex-wife is a lesbian. Seriously. Barber opines on various legal issues in spite of the fact that he doesn't seem to have ever practiced law. Towards the end:
Still, the case will eventually be tossed. It’s inevitable. But in the meantime, and as Harry Mihet, Pastor Lively’s lead attorney, points out, “Because the Court denied Mr. Lively’s Motion to Dismiss, we are now forced to go through many months and years of expensive and protracted discovery on two continents. Literally thousands of pages of documents are changing hands, and dozens of depositions will be taken. This makes the subpoenas to Houston pastors look like small potatoes.”
Houston pastors? What on earth?  Speaking of funding, I would kind of like to know who is paying for all of Lively's travel and expenses while he promotes hate in Africa and Europe. Yeah, I know, it's really Christian love. Sure.
