In Arkansas a bill is proposed to limit municipal gay rights ordinances

Arkansas state Senator Bart Hester (R-Cave Springs) filed a bill in Little Rock Monday (Feb. 2) that would keep cities in the state from passing civil rights ordinances that are different from the federal law.

Since LGBT citizens are the only minority excluded from federal law Hester's bill is clearly designed to target their protection. In essence it legalizes discrimination, across the state, of LGBT people and their families.

In December, citizens of Fayetteville Arkansas repealed a non-discrimination ordinance passed by the city council. In spite of the growing acceptance of marriage equality, LGBT Americans are still deprived of basic civil rights.
