FRC's Schwarzwalder is easily confused

Rob Schwarzwalder is senior vice president of Family Research Council. I was surprised that he stuck around after essentially getting demoted from number two guy to number three after Jerry Boykin joined the anti-gay hate group. Ol' Rob is fired up about an article in the right leaning Federalist titled Dear Gay Community: Your Kids Are Hurting by Heather Barwick. The subtitle is “I loved my mom’s partner, but another mom could never have replaced the father I lost.”

The piece goes on to inexplicably oppose the recognition of same-sex marriage. According to Schwarzwalder:
Every so often an article comes along that is so moving it puts all the extemporaneous analysis and opinion that floods the Internet into the background. “Dear Gay Community: Your Kids Are Hurting” is such an article.

In her loving, gentle, but painfully honest open letter to advocates of same-sex marriage, Heather Barwick describes being raised by two lesbians. Her mother and her partner loved Heather, but couldn’t replace her “deep-down unquenchable ache for a father, for a man.” …
First of all Ms. Barwick's real problem is that she was abandoned by her father: “My father’s absence created a huge hole in me, and I ached every day for a dad.” This would have been the case if her mother lived as a single parent after the divorce. It would have been the case if her mother married another man after divorcing her father.

Aside from the misplaced anger, what does any of this have to do with gay marriage? Apparently, Ms. Barwick's mother did not marry her partner. Ms. Barwick really opposes same-sex parenting in contrast to same-sex marriage. It is a separate issue. However, it seems inarguable that children being raised by same-sex parents are better off if those same-sex parents are married which is something that Barwick ignores entirely.

Ms. Barwick claims that she used to be an advocate of same-sex marriage. I suspect that, at some point since, she got religion.
