Mormon Church backs Utah LGBT non-discrimination bill

On Wednesday, the Utah senate introduced an LGBT anti-discrimination bill with the full backing of the Mormon Church. The proposed legislation would protect LGBT citizens in public accommodations, housing and employment based on sexual orientation or gender identity. SB296 does not permit religious exemptions. However, it did carve out protections for the Boy Scouts and some religious organizations.

I have not yet read the draft and it has a long way to go in the process. Nevertheless this represents a major change in tone for the Church of Latter Day Saints.
