Rubio Dishonestly Panders and Fear Mongers on CBN

Marco Rubio

Senator and (vice) presidential hopeful, Marco Rubio, has warned CBN's David Brody of a clear and present danger to Christianity. Seriously, those who comprise the overwhelming majority of Americans are in peril according to Rubio.
"If you think about it, we are at the water's edge of the argument that mainstream Christian teaching is hate speech," Rubio told CBN News. "Because today we've reached the point in our society where if you do not support same-sex marriage you are labeled a homophobe and a hater."

Apparently Rubio has failed to “think about it.” One more time. If my junior senator does not "support same-sex marriage" then he is free not to enter into one. If Rubio attempts to prevent others from having that same choice because of a religious objection then he will incur much due opprobrium. Similarly, if Rubio supports public policy cloaked as "religious liberty" that permits public accommodations to discriminate against LGBT citizens then he can expect to be robustly criticized.

Feigning non-existent persecution is also a means of attracting negative attention:
"After they are done going after individuals, the next step is to argue that the teachings of mainstream Christianity, the catechism of the Catholic Church is hate speech and there's a real and present danger," he warned.
Exactly what that "real and present danger" might be remains unexplained. Does Rubio not believe that religious expression is protected by the First Amendment? Why does Mr. Brody not ask Mr. Rubio to define the peril?

Homophobic hyperbole has become a pattern for Mr. Rubio. See related articles below.
