Oregon Catholic school changes hiring policy after local backlash

The AP is reporting that a Catholic school in Portland, Oregon has changed its policy on hiring gay employees. This follows the uproar over its decision to withdraw a job offer to a lesbian.

The school is St. Mary's Academy and its board voted for a change Wednesday night. In an email to parents, school president Christina Friedhoff said St. Mary's is a diverse community that welcomes gay and lesbian students and faculty. The position has since been filled but the school said they will reach out to her which probably won't do her much good.
