According to the World Congress of Families, “the Woman of the Year award will be presented to Theresa Okafor, who is Chief Executive Officer of Life League Nigeria and Director of the Foundation for Cultural Heritage.” Okafor's group was active in getting Nigeria to ban same-sex relationships. As the Times points out, not only are same-sex relationships banned but it is illegal to attend or organize a meeting of gays, or patronize or operate any type of gay organization, including private clubs.

In a 2012 speech, Okafor suggests that western gay activists are in a conspiracy with Boko Haram (an Islamist extremist group) to silence Christians.
