Blowhard Bill Donohue compares Kim Davis to Nazi resistance

In the October newsletter of the Catholic League its president, Bill Donohue compares what Kim Davis did to the Nazi resistance. I am equally appalled as a Jew and as a gay man. Although he is divorced, Donohue is a fanatical Catholic apologist. He writes:

"Victim" alert: Dr. Paul Church

Dr. Paul Church
A new (old) boo-hoo is emerging about a physician who has been persecuted by the Homosexual Agenda™. It seems that Dr. Paul Church, a Massachusetts urologist, felt compelled to share his homophobic views in mass emails with his colleagues at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He also posted similar views as comments on the health system's intranet. Eventually, after numerous warnings, the hospital revoked Church's privileges.

The hospital's disciplinary process apparently commenced in 2011. Church's removal from the staff occurred in March of this year and the hospital denied his appeal in September.

Janice Shaw Crouse baffled by SPLC's "hate group" designation of World Congress of Families

Janice Shaw Crouse
Janice Shaw Crouse
Tuesday, Janice Shaw Crouse, executive director of the upcoming World Congress of Families in Utah, gave an interview to Lifesite News (which deserves a hate-site designation). The piece is titled “Janice Shaw Crouse: Homosexual activists peddling ‘falsehoods’ about World Congress of Families.” According to Crouse:
We hold to the values and beliefs of the majority of Americans, yet a small group of activists who have unprecedented power with the media and ruling elites has been able to paint us with a broad brush of distortions, innuendos, and untruths to completely distort who we are and what we are like.

The Pope, Kim Davis and NPD

Pope Francis is the one on the left
Pope Francis has reportedly said that government officials should be able to refrain from actions that violate their beliefs. This statement has been repeated in countless Christian venues as if it were divine truth. It might be papal baloney but it is still baloney.

Tuesday update: It has now been revealed that Pope Francis met privately with Ms. Davis

The overriding problem is that Davis' supposed religious objection is unreasonable. Ms. Davis complains that, because her name is pre-printed on a government form, she is approving same-sex marriage. Her name on the paper bears less significance than Jacob Joseph Lew's signature on US currency as Secretary of the Treasury.

Once again a deranged Michael Brown compares gay people to pedophiles

Batshit
Monday, Michael Brown attempts to breathe life into an utterly preposterous 2011 piece while, at the same time, promoting his self-published books. In the Christian Post he writes “Is Pedophilia Next?

Michael Brown is a fanatical Jewish convert to Christianity. He is very noisy and most, if not all, of that noise denigrates LGBT people — Brown is obsessed. I have come to the conclusion that Brown is a reasonably intelligent and well educated individual. He just happens to be batshit crazy.

Pray away the mental disorder: Idiotic AND dangerous

Laurie Coombs
On Saturday Laurie Coombs wrote in Charisma News (where else?) “When Anxiety, Depression Terrorize You.” Laurie Coombs is a professional Christian. She makes a living selling books and garnering speaking fees. She is also a dangerous crackpot. I will get back to her later.

If you have a torn rotator cuff, there are two near certainties:
  1. Your career as a relief pitcher for the Yankees is probably at an end and;
  2. It is highly unlikely that you are going to find healing through prayer.
You are going to need a couple of doctors, one of whom is an arthroscopic surgeon. Why is brain chemistry and function somehow different? Why is it that some people accept the notion that mental disorders can be treated by amateurs?

Have you heard about Luis Antonio De La Rosa?

Luis Antonio De La Rosa
Luis Antonio ("Tony") De La Rosa, is an attorney (BA, MDiv and JD via Yale), who has been appointed interim executive director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency. This is an important position at Presbyterian Church USA. Mr. De La Rosa also happens to be gay. De La Rosa and his husband, Michael P. Bendgen, were married in June of this year1.

Whether or not this will lead to a full time appointment (I don't know if that is what De La Rosa wants) is unknown but he said:

With a $400,000 penalty Oregon tells business owners that discrimination is unacceptable

Christopher Penner
via Facebook
On Wednesday an appeals court upheld a ruling by Oregon's Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) that a bar owner was guilty of discrimination. The court found that Christopher Penner, owner of the bar formerly known as P Club, violated Oregon law. What? You think that discrimination in Oregon is limited to Sweet Cakes by Melissa? Idiots abound.

This case stemmed from two voice-mail messages that Penner left on June 18, 2012 for Cassandra Lynn, founder of Rose City T-Girls, a gay, transgender and transsexual social club. Penner told Lynn that the club was unwelcome on Friday nights because their presence was “hurting business a lot” as customers referred the club as a “tranny” or “gay” bar. He should be so lucky.

The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors

The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (certified mind you) is having it's annual conference on homosexuality October 5-7 in Louisville, Kentucky. Three days to talk about gays. According them:
The Christian community cannot only be known as the people who understand that homosexuality is wrong. It is a matter of urgent concern that we also be known as the people who move towards people struggling with homosexuality with the love, grace, power, and hope of Jesus Christ and walk with them through the door to real and lasting change.

Todd Starnes really is a fucking idiot

According to Starnes, “Doritos Aligns With Anti-Christians Bully.” Starnes is not just some religious yahoo. He works for a major media outlet. You would think that he might try to verify some facts.

While it is true that the It Gets Better Project (IOLA Foundation) was inspired by Dan Savage, he is neither an officer nor a board member. I am reasonably sure that Savage has no influence on Frito-Lay or their production of Doritos.

Starnes is attacking a charity that does good work because it was founded on an idea by someone he does not like. Where is the sense in that?

No surprise that Pope Francis uses rhetoric similar to NOM

According to Pope Francis in his address to Congress:

I cannot hide my concern for the family, which is threatened, perhaps as never before, from within and without. Fundamental relationships are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family. I can only reiterate the importance and, above all, the richness and the beauty of family life.
Presumably Pope Francis is referring to marriage equality. I have never understood why same-sex marriage threatens anything. As I have written countless times the same heterosexuals will unite in the same marriages, crank out the same kids and sue for the same divorces. Unfortunately the pope is surrounded by people who won't challenge his assumptions. A pope emeritus is still hanging around at court and he called gay people “objectively disordered.”

AFA finally got around to having a shit fit over gay Doritos

Anti-gay hate group, American Family Association finally got around to hating Doritos and the company that makes them, Frito-Lay. Their over-the-top email blast to supporters is titled: “This company joins the Christian bashers.
The rainbow colored chips will be mailed to anyone who gives $10 or more to the LGBT “It Gets Better Project” youth initiative. The organization was started by the notorious anti-Christian extremist Dan Savage.

For years Savage has promoted sexual deviancy and hurled nasty insults at Christians. …

Hate expressed in a single sentence of feigned tolerance

The Church never demeans a person under the influence of homosexuality.

I find it stunning that that sentence is within a polemic titled “Why Words Matter When It Comes to Homosexuality.” It was written by Dr. John Collins who – frighteningly – is superintendent of schools in the Diocese of Santa Rosa, California. He is responsible for 15 Catholic schools (most are K-8). The primary purpose of his piece is to insist on calling gay people homosexuals which overlooks the fact that, in polite society, we address people as they prefer. Deliberately doing otherwise is, well … demeaning.

Brian Brown "on the front lines" - Exactly what does he do all day?

Brian Brown, president of National Organization for Marriage sent out a lengthy email to supports this afternoon. Its subject: “Breaking: Pope Francis in First US Speech Gives Ringing Defense of Religious Freedom.

The Importance of a President

Justice Antonin Scalia
Justice Antonin Scalia at Rhodes College in Memphis on 9/22/2015
Justice Antonin Scalia spoke at Rhodes College in Memphis yesterday. As expected he delivered his “originalism” nonsense while calling the Court's decision decision in Obergefell “the furthest imaginable extension of the Supreme Court doing whatever it wants.”

By the end of our next president's first term, four justices of the Supreme Court will be in their eighties. In rounded years, Justice Ginsburg will be 88; Scalia — 85; Kennedy — 84 and Breyer will be 82 years of age. Justices Thomas and Alito will be in their seventies. The remaining Justices Roberts, Sotomayor and Kagan will be in their sixties. All but one, Justice Kagan, will be over 65.

Poor Kim!

Apparently the world revolves around Kim Davis and her creepy religion. It is my personal belief that this woman just wants attention. Just ask Todd Starnes:
“When I went back into that holding cell I hit my knees and just prayed, just cried out for God to give me some peace and assurance that all was going to be well – and I prayed and I sang,” she told me in her first digital interview.

Brian Brown is astonished by two rather ordinary things

Tuesday, Brian Brown writing at the National Organization for Marriage blog offersIt's Not Only Kim Davis Who Has Been Targeted For Punishment.” Keep in mind that Brown is using Kim Davis as a reason for NOM to continue to exist in order to attract donations. Before I get into the specifics of Brown's feigned persecution complex, there are two things that seem to astonish him:
  1. We expect government employees to service all citizens in conformity with the law and;
  2. We expect citizens to obey court orders. They are free to appeal.

Rowan County Clerk's office to receivership?

Kim Davis

Monday, the ACLU requested (see motion, below) that Judge Bunning threaten Kim Davis with placing her office in federal receivership for non-compliance with the Court's order. Allegedly Kim Davis is requiring her deputy clerks to alter the marriage licenses of same-sex couples. According to lawyers one clerk, for example, was required to use the title “Notary Public” rather than his official title as “Deputy Clerk.” Davis seems to be engaged in a sophomoric attempt to invalidate these marriage licenses.

In their filing, the ACLU notes:

Awaiting the freak-out over Eric Fanning

Eric Fanning
Eric Fanning has been nominated to be the next Secretary of the Army. Fanning is eminently qualified. He has been serving as the acting under secretary of the Army since June. Prior to that, he served as Secretary of Defense Ash Carter’s chief of staff. If confirmed by the Senate, Fanning will succeed Army Secretary John McHugh, who served in that position for six years and is leaving the post by November 1.

Did I mention that Eric Fanning is gay? It should be irrelevant to his confirmation. The Senate vote will be very revealing. So far the usual conservative Christian suspects have been relatively quiet.

Don't blame the gay Doritos for the latest bout of Christian madness

Gay Doritos
Frito-Lay, snack food division of PepsiCo and maker of Doritos, partnered with the It Gets Better campaign and produced gay pride chips in rainbow colors for sale exclusively on-line with proceeds going to the It Gets Better campaign. They are all gone by the way. Sold out. This was all done in advance of Sunday's Dallas Pride parade which has the corporate sponsorship of Frito-Lay.

The thing that is driving the Christians to new heights of insanity isn't the gay chips; It is that fact that the founder of the It Gets Better Campaign is Dan Savage. Conservative Christians hate Dan Savage.

Who or what is "NOM Staff" and who writes this crap?

There is a Gaythering Storm
As an employer National Organization for Marriage has never been a convocation of vibrant critical thinkers. The mediocre minds of former employees like Thomas Peters and Christopher Plante were at the radius of an intellectual black hole. Things seem to be going further downhill with a piece titled “Oregon Judge Faces Charges for Declining to Perform Same-sex ‘Wedding’ Ceremonies.” The post is attributed to NOM Staff. Who remains and what do they do all day?

Florida Family Policy Council's "Evil Pervert" Tour

I really don't lnow how Florida Family Policy Council has escaped the attention of SPLC. Nevertheless, John Stemberger's enterprise is clearly a hate group. Here's an upcoming event:
Protect My Ministry Tour- Sept 29-Oct 9. In 14 Cities across Florida, this seminar event will be held for senior pastors and headmasters of Christian schools. The event will include a special presentation on how to protect your Church and Christian school from legal attack by sexual orientation and gender identity lawsuits. Please limit attendance to one person per church or school. Advanced registration is required. Let your pastor know about this event!
Perhaps it would be simpler to treat fellow citizens and taxpayers with the respect that they deserve. Less conflict. More harmony. Some would argue — more Christian.

Liberty Counsel loses again - this time it's CA's gay conversion ban - AGAIN

What? You thought this issue was settled? See the ruling below. Liberty Counsel seems to lose every case and each loss generates more appeals and motions creating more losses and more appeals and motions. I honestly don't know how they keep track of it all. This is what happens in the absence of a paying client and the presence of lawyers who are insane. Liberty Counsel is clogging up the courts with batshit — at our expense. They are doing the Lord's work and simply cannot accept defeat.

Another eunuch has a self-serving post-Obergefell moment

David Prosen

David Prosen is a gay man who is as toxic as Tony Perkins. David Prosen is a gay man who, in service to his Catholic faith, has made a decision to be celibate (they say “chaste”). Prosen was featured in that ludicrous video, The Third Way: Homosexuality and the Catholic Church. Prosen thinks that all gay men should be like him and that assertion makes Prosen the target for a considerable amount of well-deserved criticism.

Pope Francis taking on the fundamentalists (Robby, Ryan and Brian)

Pope Francis had some interesting things to say on a Sunday radio interview. I am not giving him a pass on his blatant homophobia but he does make some interesting good sense from time to time:
Our God is a God who is close, who accompanies. Fundamentalists keep God away from accompanying his people, they divert their minds from him and transform him into an ideology. So in the name of this ideological god, they kill, they attack, destroy, slander. Practically speaking, they transform that God into a Baal, an idol. … In every religion there will be a small group of fundamentalists whose work is to destroy for the sake of an idea, and not reality. And reality is superior to ideas.
Of course, Robert George, Brian Brown and Ryan Anderson would all deny that they are fundamentalists. However, the text seems very fitting.

A pre-synod conference on gay people in Rome - just to channel the homophobia

Courage International (with a little help from our old friend, Jennifer Roback Morse) is holding its first conference in Rome to “address the pastoral needs of men and women who experience homosexual tendencies.” Or, as I would put it, an exploration of methods to shame gay people who well then feel that they need the Church to absolve them of guilt. The Church is intent on making gay people self-loathing.

Hopefully my last post about Kim Davis

Kim Davis

Kim Davis' celebrity clock has hit the quarter hour, she has returned to work and, my Friday post turned out to be accurate — my Sunday piece, not so much. Davis has said that she will not interfere but that she is not authorizing any of the marriage licenses issued by her office, a distinction that is probably immaterial.

During her 15 minutes of fame she was used by her attorneys to raise money and used by Mike Huckabee to raise his profile. Yet, for most of America (and in spite of the fan mail), she will remain  “that nutty woman in Kentucky.”

Liberty Counsel's latest judicial misadventure

Further to my post on Friday, later that day Liberty Counsel filed yet another emergency motion at the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. They now have three separate appeals with innumerable motions. Personally I think that this is abuse of process. Let's back up for a moment and then I'll deal with this latest paper.

We get it Brian Brown - NOM expedited the release of Kim Davis

Brian S. Brown

Saturday morning Brian Brown, head of National Organization for Marriage, wants us to know; “What a Week For Marriage.” Brown's problem is that NOM has never accomplished anything of lasting value and these days they are barely going through the motions. NOM exists exclusively as an employment vehicle. Those who are on that payroll spend their time attempting to convince potential donors that NOM is using their donations to achieve meaningful results. They exist, therefore they get paid.

Next Week in Kim Davis

Halle-fucking-lujah

I have gone through the transcript of the September 3 contempt hearing. The reading provides some insight into what will probably transpire next week. First a review.

At the core of this matter is a federal district court injunction that requires Davis to issue marriage licenses to all qualified couples. That is under appeal. Davis' attorneys from Liberty Counsel asked the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals to stay the injunction while it was under appeal. The Court denied the stay noting that Davis has almost no chance of prevailing in the appeal and that her actions directly contravened the constitutional rights of gay couples. The Supreme Court also denied the stay after review by the entire bench.

Liberty Counsel lawyers disagree with eath other on Kim Davis' return to work

Mat Staver - Liberty Counsel
The anti-gay hate group, Liberty Counsel, is providing free representation to county clerk Kim Davis. These are the conditions under which their client was released:
ORDER: 1. Defendant Davis shall be released from the custody of the U.S. Marshal forthwith. Defendant Davis shall not interfere in any way, directly or indirectly, with the efforts of her deputy clerks to issue marriage licenses to all legally eligible couples. If Defendant Davis should interfere in any way with their issuance, that will be considered a violation of this Order and appropriate sanctions will be considered.
Signed by Judge David L. Bunning on 9/8/15.(KSS)cc: COR, USMS

For a Christian nationalist the Kim Davis saga is an adventure in judicial overreach

David Lane

Christian nationalist, David Lane, has weighed in on the Kim Davis affair. Lane, with financing from America Family Association, is an energetic and persistent Christian reconstructionist. However he is not terribly imaginative. In an article appearing in Charisma News, Lane writes; “The Troubling Record of the Judge Who Jailed Kim Davis.” According to Lane:
Judge David Bunning -- a Republican -- ordered her [Kim Davis] jailed last week, although no law was passed by Congress and signed by the President of the United States that would force her to issue marriage licenses to individuals and proponents of same-sex intercourse and marriage. Mrs. Davis has broken no law.

Three things that Rachel Lu doesn't get about the Kim Davis saga

Rachel Lu
Rachel Lu, like Brian Brown demonstrates the zealousness of a Catholic convert. For Lu the teachings of the Catholic Church define truth. Wednesday Ms. Lu provides an article in the Federalist titled “A Liberal Pundit’s Guide To Kim Davis.” She goes on to write:
For the sake of the liberal morality narrative, Kim Davis has to go down. To sell that to the public, she must be dismissed as a right-wing crank.
Thereafter, Lu devotes most of her attention to the notion that liberals are elites lacking in morality and even common sense. It's all we vs. them stuff that is entirely lacking in intellectual honesty.

We are just one kook away from a tragedy in Kentucky

David Badash has an excellent piece on the demonstration at Judge David Bunning's home protesting his holding Kim Davis in contempt of court. Heated rhetoric and misinformed Christian zealots at the home of someone that they believe is insulting the word of Jesus. What could possibly go wrong?

It is important to understand who these people might be and what they were told.

Liberty Counsel Drifts While NOM Grifts

Kim Davis

I concede that I am not fluent in Liberty Counsel's unique dialect of gibberish. However it seems that they have filed an “Emergency Motion” with the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. I'll get back to that futile endeavor but first, allow me to summarize the amount of judicial intervention – at taxpayer expense – that Liberty Counsel has subjected us to in order to allow the office of the county clerk in Rowan County, Kentucky to illegally refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay couples; All of which is designed to frustrate the Supreme Court's opinion in Obergefell v. Hodges that gays have a constitutional right to marry.

No, Kim Davis is not Rosa Parks

Kim Davis and Rosa Parks

Sunday in the Christian Post is an article by Wallace Henley titled “Kim Davis and Rosa Parks.” Henley (a pastor and former low-level Nixon staffer) equates the two. One of the things that Henley fails to do is to draw the distinction between a private citizen (Ms. Parks) and an elected public official (Ms. Davis). He also fails to acknowledge that Parks was part of a persecuted minority while Davis is part of the white Protestant majority.

The Hate Group Rally has a suitable "pastor" in Joshua Feuerstein

CHRISTIAN HOLOCAUST HAS BEGUN!!! I'm calling for Americans to INVADE ROWAN COUNTY and PROTEST!!! Christian lady ARRESTED for not endorsing GAY MARRIAGE!JOIN US TUESDAY ------> https://www.facebook.com/events/171661916501455/
Posted by Joshua Feuerstein on Thursday, September 3, 2015

The video is here. It will not embed properly.

Joshua Feuerstein
Joshua Feuerstein
Pastor Joshua Feuerstein will be a member of the futile Kim Davis rally on Tuesday. Other participants include Mike Huckabee, Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel, Tony Perkins of Family Research Council, someone from Concerned Women for America and Brian Brown. In other words it is a hatefest.

“Holocaust?” Mr. Feuerstein needs a history lesson. Just for starters Congress has not passed laws that strip Christians of their citizenship. Nor are Christians being deprived of all of their assets which are distributed to their non-Christian neighbors. In point of fact entire Christian families are not being rounded up and systematically tortured. The state has not erected massive gas chambers and crematoria to murder those same men, women and children and then dispose of their bodies.

“Holocaust” is a word that should be used with great caution and at least a rudimentary understanding of history.

Really Brian Brown? Seriously? ... and a summary

I am just catching up on my email — I went AWOL at about 4:00 PM Friday. One interesting piece came from National Organization for Marriage. It is titled “Share This Petition to Free Kim Davis.”

Aside from the obvious (Judge Bunning doesn't run his court through petition), it is filled with the usual hyperbole in common use by anti-gay groups. Apparently tyrannical judges are doing the bidding of evil, mean gay activists in order to defy God. We have seen it all before and can quote it ad nauseum. One paragraph struck me as particularly dishonest (highlighting added):

Brian Brown: 'This judicial tyranny must end now!'

Thursday evening National Organization for Marriage sent out a fully expected “Free Kim Davis” email to supporters. Not only was jailing Kim Davis “judicial tyranny” but it seems that “The rogue federal judge who has jailed Kim Davis is merely the instrument of this tyranny.” At this point, given NOM's losses in various courts, pretty much all of the federal judiciary are rogues and tyrants.

Consider the case of the Sabbath observer

I have had orthodox Jews in my employ — some as department heads. The City of New York employs a fair number of orthodox Jews. Again, some as department heads and higher. I mention this because these employees require additional time off. In addition to 12 additional days that they are not permitted to work, the Sabbath begins 18 minutes before sundown on Friday.

Kim Davis files reply brief with convoluted argument

According to Kim Davis' attorneys from Liberty Counsel “Davis should not be held in contempt because she ‘is presently unable to comply with the court’s order’ enjoining her to authorize SSM licenses bearing her name.” They are defending against contempt by arguing that her compliance is factually impossible. They further explain:.

Kim Davis eats the national LGBT news

Kim Davis

Kim Davis, a backwater Kentucky county clerk has become an all consuming national figure as she defies the Supreme Court of the United States. She is still refusing service to gay couples. If she wants martyrdom I suspect that her desires will be fulfilled after a hearing before US District Court Judge David L. Bunning tomorrow. Judges don't like to be disobeyed.

Elaine Donnelly warns of the dangers of allowing 'transgendered' people to serve in the military

Donnelly circa 2010
Does anyone still listen to Elaine Donnelly? If so, why?

The world headquarters of Elaine Donnelly's Center for Military Readiness occupies about three square feet of space on Ms. Donnelly's kitchen table in Livonia, MI. Founded in 1993 by Donnelly and Phyllis Schlafly. CMR is perhaps best known for its efforts to keep gays from serving openly in the military.

NOM: Give us money because those mean gays are picking on Kim Davis

Brian Brown and his National Organization for Marriage make less sense by the day. This afternoon Brown indulges in an incoherent diatribe titled “Kim Davis is Why We Must Fight.” While it is true that Davis has an ongoing appeal she is currently out of options. She is obligated to issue marriage licenses to all those who qualify. If she is unable, or unwilling, to do her job then she should resign. There is little that NOM or Brown can do to alter things. Brown is all mixed up:
This puts Kim Davis in a terrible spot because it's she, personally, whose name is on a marriage license in Rowan County and whose signature attests that the couple is indeed married. The trouble is that two men cannot be married to each other, nor two women — regardless of what any court states.

One has to to wonder how some of these nitwits become bishops in the first place

Archbishop of Agana Guam Anthony Sablan Apuron
Archbishop of Agana Guam Anthony Sablan Apuron
Courtesy of a link from National Organization for Marriage, the archbishop of Agana, Guam lectures us about the true meaning of marriage equality. According to Anthony Sablan Apuron, OFM Cap., D.D. (donning a miter draped with tea bags):
These times compel the Church to expose the intentions of those who have deceivingly disguised same-sex unions as an issue of equality and anti-discrimination. It is important to understand that the political pressure to push the agenda for same-sex “marriage” has never been about gay rights; the true intention behind this agenda has always been about the destruction of the family and the imposition of the totalitarian system. The approval of same-sex “marriage” has now thrown open the doors of Guam to implement in our community a very clever and systematic theory, which has as its aim the destruction of marriage and family through the annihilation of any sexual differences among persons. This theory is known as the “Theory of Gender.”

Davis 'Under God's Authority'

Even though the Supreme Court has declined to intervene, no one is forcing Kim Davis to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. However, if she is unable to do so then she has an obligation to resign. Despite appearances, her office is not a family entitlement.

According to the AP she was confronted by one or more couples this morning. She ordered them to leave. The refused until she issued the licenses. Davis, claiming that she was “under God's authority,” said “then you are going to have a long day.”
