The Virginia Catholic Conference ensures that we will have to fight yet another license-to-discriminate bill

The Vatican was heavily invested in preventing gay couples – of all faiths – from marrying. They lost. Now the bishops have induced two Virginia Republicans, Senator Bill Carrico and Delegate Todd Gilbert, into introducing legislation that is becoming all too familiar. According to the AP, Jeff Caruso, executive director of the Virginia Catholic Conference, says the state must ensure that groups can put their beliefs into practice, without being punished for them.

By now we know exactly what that means. They want a right to discriminate in employment, housing and public accommodations. Governor Terry McAuliffe has already said that he would veto these bills. Nevertheless the debate will ensue putting more pressure on our community — especially our most vulnerable young people and their families.
