More Cruz News - and it's a bit scary

Ted Cruz

According to the Christian Post; Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz told voters Saturday that “it is time to awaken the body of Christ that we may pull back from the abyss.” Cruz went on to say “I want to tell everyone to get ready, strap on the full armor of God, get ready for the attacks that are coming.”

The logical extension to this is that God takes sides in a political contest. Therefore, if Mr. Trump prevails in Iowa, it was God's will?  “God's will” for these folks seems to apply in the abstract as in: “It is God's will that you repent and leave the homosexual lifestyle.” On the other hand, God rarely gets the credit that he is due for things like tornadoes in Oklahoma. If God does get the credit it will be because gay rights or abortions have pissed him off. Apparently God is incapable of directing his tantrum towards, say, Massachusetts or New York with a tsunami. Of course every time there is a hurricane, well … Furthermore, these days mass shootings seem to inspire a great deal more prayer than gun control.

Just how fucked up are we?

This is all not very smart of Mr. Cruz or, to some extent, Mr. Rubio. The appeal to Evangelical Christians in Iowa is going to stick. About 25% of the electorate identify as Evangelical Christians. 30% of the electorate are not Christian at all. Cruz is going to have to answer some tough questions. What place is society would a gay or Jewish or Muslim or [fill in the blank] citizen have during a Cruz presidency.

Frankly I find it all a bit scary. It also seems quite un-American.
