The Duck Schmuck emerges for Ted Cruz to "rid the earth" of gay people

Sunday, Senator Ted Cruz trotted out Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson at a campaign event in Iowa. Robertson did not disappoint the crowd. Speaking of gay people Robertson said: “We have to rid the earth of them. Get them out of there.” And Cruz just stands there content with the knowledge that this plays well with his Evangelical base. Amazing.

Robertson is reported to have said:
When a fellow like me looks at the landscape and sees the depravity, the perversion — redefining marriage and telling us that marriage is not between a man and a woman? Come on Iowa! … It is nonsense. It is evil. It’s wicked. It’s sinful … They want us to swallow it, you say. We have to run this bunch out of Washington, DC.
And Cruz just stands there.

It is outrageous that a candidate for the highest office in the land would bring out someone with the express purpose of denigrating a minority group of fellow citizens. “Rid the earth of them” is Holocaust talk and I never use that word lightly. Cruz knows exactly what Robertson is going to do so, in effect, it is extreme homophobia by proxy.

Parents and children hear this nonsense. Does it contribute to, or deteriorate, a civil society? Senator Cruz is a sophisticated Harvard educated lawyer who has clerked at the Supreme Court and served in the George W. Bush administration. Yet he keeps assuring us that he is going to govern according to the tenets of evangelical Christianity — Establishment Clause be damned. Either he is the most cynical prick to ever run for president or the most unbalanced.

Robertson is the guy on the left
