AFA's greeting and a reminder

American Family Association, an anti-gay hate group, has prepared a petition in favor of that Texas bakery that discriminated against a gay couple. They do not require a petition since there are no LGBT anti-discrimination laws in effect in their locale. Essentially, AFA is providing them with well wishers while, at the same time, building their email list.

The AFA Hallmark is self-serving. These people did nothing in the service of their god. Being enamored with the belief that baking a cake is some sort of holy sacrament doesn't mean that it is. I am not at all sure why anyone is praying for their unnecessary attorneys. Frankly, I don't know why anyone would pray for any attorney — but that's a different matter. However it is clear that the gay couple opposed their righteousness, at least according to the hate group leader who wrote this nonsense.

There are really two reminders:
  1. The people who should be getting positive attention are the couple that was turned away. In point of fact they are the victims of discrimination.
  2. This demonstrates why we need to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Have we heard of any interracial couples denied service on religious grounds lately? Jews denied service for being Christ killers?
Post marriage equality we still have a great deal of work to do! First we need to vote these maniacs out of office. Then we need to press for the Equality Act.
